In Latin In that language is where the etymological origin of the word research is found that we are now going to analyze. In particular, it derives from the verb “perquirere”, which can be translated as “search carefully” and which is made up of two parts:
• The prefix "per-", which is equivalent to "through".
• The verb "quarere", which can be translated as "search."

The concept of research can be associated with the idea of investigation . This is an inquiry that a person or an agency carried out with the intention of discover a certain issue, accessing information previously unknown.

The research can be carried out in multiple ways and in any field. There are informal inquiries , that an individual develops in his daily life almost spontaneously, and others that are concretized through a complex work and extended in time.

For example: "The investigation of the Scientific Police resulted in the arrest of four people involved in the murder", "I would tell the senator not to be so calm: the investigation is not over yet and things can still come to light", "I'm going to do a research to find out who leaves the garbage at the door of the house".

The mother of three children can do a research at home to find out which of her children is the one who, at night, eats sweets in secret. For this, install a video camera in the kitchen and record several hours. The next day, watching the recording, discover who was the one who ate the candy.

Another type of investigation, more formal, is the one that performs the policeman from a country to disrupt a gang of drug traffickers. The investigation includes agents infiltrated in the criminal group, analysis of telephone communications, kidnapping of computers and hidden cameras. Finally, the investigation serves to seize two hundred kilograms of drugs, arrest ten people and begin a judicial process to judge those responsible.

Many are the crime and thriller genre novels, which focus primarily on the investigations carried out by their protagonists in order to discover the identity of the criminal who has committed the relevant wrongdoing. That happens, for example, in books written by Agatha Christie and starring Detective Hercules Poirot.

We cannot ignore that in certain countries research is used with other meanings. Thus, for example, in Ecuador that is synonymous with both the Secret Police and the agent working in that body.

Also, long ago this word was used to refer to the witness of a specific event or event.

In the field of medicine, on the other hand, there is talk of what is known as neonatal screening. With this term, reference is made to the search that is carried out of pathologies that do not have symptoms at the time of birth but, over time, bring with them a series of consequences that are detectable by medical analyzes of different types.

Cystic fibrosis, congenital hypothyroidism or congenital adrenal hyperplasia are some of the diseases that are tried to be discovered in newborns through blood samples, for example.
