The geography (from Latin geography, which in turn derives from a compound Greek term) is the science who takes care of the description of the Earth . The word can also be used to refer to the territory or at landscape .

Geography, therefore, studies the ecological environment , the societies that live in it and the regions that are formed when this relationship occurs. In other words, it is responsible for analyzing the Earth-man relationship and the geographical phenomena of the earth's surface.

Currently in universities around the world there is a degree in Geography. With it students will get extensive training in this subject from various points of view. Thus, for example, they will study thoroughly and acquire the knowledge and skills necessary in the field of fundamental manual disciplines in that such as cartography or remote sensing.

However, in addition to those mentioned, they will also learn many questions about the identification of the causes that originate human processes such as emigration or depopulation. And all this without forgetting what are the areas related to the understanding of natural events such as climatology or hydrobiology.

At a lower educational level such as Primary or Secondary there is also a subject on Geography and in it students learn questions such as the Planets, Earth movements, how to place a country within the globe, the capitals of countries, cities of the world or the existing types of weather.

This science has several principles, stipulated by specialists throughout the history . He location principle , for example, was supported by Federico Ratzel and it consists in locating the geographical fact, which also allows identifying the geographical phenomenon.

He comparison principle , analyzed by Carl Ritter , explains the relationship between a fact and a geographical phenomenon. We can also mention the beginning of explanation , studied by Alexander von Humboldt , which investigates the phenomenon based on checks; he description principle , Contributed by Vidal de la Blanche , which allows to decipher the geographical fact when analyzing its causality; and the principle of geographical observation , which enables the visualization of geographical phenomena based on the reference that originates from the surface or space.

As for the geographical traditions (the currents or lines of study existing in this science), appear the physical tradition (responsible for physical aspects, such as relief and vegetation), the chorological tradition (studies territorial systems, both natural and social spaces), the ecological tradition (focuses on the interaction between human groups and the physical environment), the landscape tradition (analyzes natural and cultural landscapes), the space tradition (location and distribution of natural and cultural phenomena) and the social tradition (takes care of societies and the media where they live).

In addition to all of the above, we must emphasize that one of the main novels of the writer Almudena Grandes takes the term that occupies us as a fundamental piece of her title. We are talking about "Atlas of Human Geography", a 1998 novel that revolves around the lives of four women who work together in an editorial and whose project is the realization of a Geography atlas.

A task that, while it is being developed, allows the reader to get to know the life of each one of these women in depth.
